Assault weapon used in street slaying
A 22-year-old Nogales man was found dead at 6:40 p.m. on June 24 in the Arivechi Street and Avenida del Pino area in the Colonia Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood of Nogales, Mexico. The victim, identified as “David F.S.,” was killed by a bullet to the back of his head.
The Mexican newspaper El Imparcial reports that Nogales Municipal Police secured the crime scene so that representatives from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) and the Ministerial Agency for Criminal Investigation (AMIC) could collect evidence. Police recovered three 7.62x39mm shell casings from an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle from the scene.
There were skid marks on the street near where the body lay, which investigators suspect may have been caused by the vehicle in which the shooter was riding. It was not clear whether the victim had been shot from the vehicle.
The Public Ministry of the Common Jurisdiction had the body transported to a funeral home where an autopsy will be performed.
