CBP Seized $211,000 in January 2017 at the Nogales international border

Officials Seize Cash at the Nogales International Border

January 22, 2016

A Mexican man ran out of luck on Friday, January 13, 2017, when he was stopped at a border checkpoint and found to have a large quantity of money in his vehicle.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports that a 45-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico was stopped during a routine southbound border inspection at the Mariposa Port in Nogales, Arizona.

During the inspection, CBP officials found $211,000 in unreported U.S. currency hidden in the dashboard of the man’s Chevy truck.

They seized the money and the vehicle, and the man was arrested and sent to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Investigations unit.

Large seizures of U.S. currency on the Mexico border often thwart efforts to move profits from cartel drug operations in the United States across the border into Mexico.
