And Percentage of Increase Could Grow

According to statistics compiled by Sonora newspaper El Imparcial and published on June 21, homicide rates in Nogales, Mexico have increased by 20 percent over the same period in 2017. And that percentage could still increase.

According to Nogales police statistics, there have been 36 murders in Nogales since the beginning of the year, six more since the same period (January to June) in 2017. And since the homicide statistics were reported on June 21, that statistical percentage could still increase before the end of this month.

El Imparcial analyzed statistics from the Nogales Municipal Police, and found that causes of death for this year are:

By firearm: 20 deaths
Stabbing: 4 deaths
Blunt force: 5 deaths

The report also mentions that seven homicide victims were found in “clandestine graves,” including the bodies of two women found in the courtyard of a home in Colonia Fundo Legal, near the Nogales border tourism district. The causes of death for those found in clandestine graves were not provided.

Overall Assault Statistics

According to cited Nogales crime statistics, from January 1 to June 21 of this year reported injuries from assaults in Nogales, Mexico included:

Firearm projectile injury: 23 people
Stabbings: 18 people
Blunt force: 43 people.

Kidnappings

The El Imparcial Story also mentions that 43 people were hospitalized with injuries, and the majority of those were victims who had been “deprived of their freedom” by “armed groups” before being dropped off in various parts of the city.
