Cortinez - Calles

Nogales Mexico Tourism Districts
The Cortinez-Calles tourism district in Nogales, Mexico

The Cortinez-Calles tourism district in Nogales, Mexico bears the names of the two streets that border the zone – Avenidas Ruiz Cortinez and Plutarco Elias Calles.

The avenues are named after two Mexican presidents, Adolfo Ruiz Cortinez and Guaymas, Sonora native Plutarco Elias Calles.

The district is directly across the border from the Morley Avenue pedestrian crossing. After passing through the Morley Crossing, the street to the south is Avenida Elias.

If you take a right turn and walk along Calle International, when it curves to the left it becomes Avenida Ruiz Cortinez. Continue walking along Ruiz Cortinez and you will see the pedestrian overpass that leads to the main Nogales, Sonora tourism zones.

To get to the Cortinez-Calles area on foot from the main border tourism district, either walk across the pedestrian overpass, or cross through border traffic via a crosswalk located near the small plaza with international flags.

The Cortinez-Calles zone used to be a bar and prostitution district. And there are still some cantinas, strip bars and a massage parlor in the area.

But the district is undergoing a renovation that includes more commercial businesses. There is new construction for dental offices, in addition to the long-time favorite Nogales restaurant and bar, La Roca El Balcón.
