Action to mitigate spread of Coronavirus outbreak on the Nogales border
In response to an active coronavirus outbreak, the city of Nogales, Sonora announced mandatory face coverings on June 23 as a measure to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The requirement applies to anyone in public places, in vehicles and in businesses where people may congregate, to include Nogales residents and those who enter the city from a United States port of entry.
The move follows a June 18 mandatory mask proclamation by the city of Nogales, Arizona.
Other requirements
The Nogales, Mexico announcement also requires that people must also wear masks while in businesses like banks, where they must first undergo a temperature check when entering. And only one person per family is allowed to enter a business where people may gather.
The mandatory measure includes those riding in privately owned vehicles, taxis and public transportation. Nogales taxis are limited to 50 percent capacity and must be sanitized on a continuous basis.
It also reinforces the importance of using hand sanitizer to protect against the virus.
The measure was coordinated and announced by the city government and a consortium of local businesses known as Alianza Todos Somos Nogales, or the We Are All Nogales Alliance.
