Was turned away three times before being admitted
A Nogales, Sonora municipal traffic police officer suffering from symptoms of COVID-19 went to the Isssteson hospital four times with coronavirus symptoms the week of April 13 before he was admitted for treatment.
According to an April 19 report in El Imparcial, traffic officer Jorge Ávila presented at the ISSSTESON hospital in Nogales three times that week, suffering from symptoms of the novel coronavirus.
Ávila had been working at coronavirus checkpoints in urban areas of Nogales the week before he became ill.
On his first appointment, the hospital treated him for two hours, gave him medicine and instructed him to go home.
After two subsequent visits the hospital informed Ávila that he was dehydrated and had sinusitis, and again told him to go home.
The evening of Saturday, April 18 he had a dry cough, a fever that would not subside and breathing difficulty, so he was taken to the hospital for the fourth time, this time by ambulance.
That night he was admitted and his family reported the following day that they had been unable to contact the hospital via telephone, and were worried that he had not been tested for the coronavirus.
As of the time of publishing this story we have found no updates of Officer Ávila’s condition since the original April 19 story.
